Welcome to Zakaya Media!

We are Black and South Asian owned. 

We will be a media source that covers current affairs, opinion pieces and special interest stories, mainly from the United Kingdom. We will cover mainstream news stories from the perspective of minorities who are so often spoken about and yet seldom heard from in any meaningful way. This means Black, Asian, Mixed Heritage as well as religious minorities such as Muslims, Sikhs, Jews and Hindus.

It is frustrating to still see so many news stories covered with glaring blind spots and bias by the legacy media. And any specialised content is often funded and are therefore restricted, as the publication are concerned with the position of their funders.

Zakaya will commission stories from well-known and established journalists as well as newer writers who want to highlight a particular issue. Eventually, we want to be able to create a route into media, networks and mentorship for those who would routinely face barriers in the mainstream. Our content can also be enjoyed and welcoming to readers from all backgrounds. We are also aware of how social media has allowed abuse, especially towards Black/POC to flourish and remain unchecked. Sometimes we will write editorial pieces with the idea that we want you to engage with the content rather than the writer.
